Detailed Report:

A 3.5 days summer training program was organized at Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology, from 28th June - 1st July 2023 on the topic “Pharmaceutical Dissolution Testing- A Hands on Training Programme” in collaboration with DPSRU and supported by IPA, Delhi Branch.

The program saw participation of 15 delegates from different colleges in NCR- South Point College of Pharmacy, Saras College of Pharmacy, Lloyd School of Pharmacy, Gurugram University, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) and in-house candidates from Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology.

The program commenced with Saraswati Vandana followed by two sessions on succession by  Dr. Munish Ahuja, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guru Jambeshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar on the topics- “Significance and Theory of Dissolution Testing & Dissolution and Drug Release Testing Apparatus”. This was followed by Lab demonstration of USP Type-1, 2 Dissolution Apparatus. In the second half of the day students performed “Dissolution Test on Immediate Release Drug Products and Collecting Data” (Group Assignment).

Day-2 featured first session on “Regulatory Aspects of Dissolution Testing” by Dr. Piush Khare, Manager, Wave Pharma Regulatory Services. This was followed by two online sessions on “Automation in Dissolution Testing” by Mr. Shrikant Salunkhe, Product Manager Sotax and “Demonstration of USP Type-4 Dissolution Apparatus /Case Studies and Examples (Team Project Assignment for Method Development)” by Mr. Suhas Yewale, Sotax. The later part of the day students performed Calculations of Drug Release and Result Interpretation of Data Obtained on Previous Day.

On Day-3 of the workshop participants did hands on training on drug release studies using Franz diffusion cell and calculations thereof.

On the concluding day there were three back to back sessions on “Bioavailability and Bioequivalence Assessment from Dissolution Data Concepts and Practical Training with Dummy Data Sets)” by Dr. Gaurav Kumar Jain, Associate Professor, DPSRU, New Delhi, In-vitro-In-vivo Correlation (Concepts and Practical Training with Dummy Data Sets)” by Dr. Ashu Mittal, Professor and Head Department of Pharmaceutics, Associate Head (Research), KIET School of Pharmacy, Ghaziabad and “Biowavers with Case Studies” by Dr. Rajesh Agrawal, General Manager R & D, Modi-Mundi Pharma Research & Development.

This was followed by a valedictory speech by Dr. Vandana who congratulated the participants to have chosen to develop their skills and go beyond the curriculum. She said that such programmes are not only a learning opportunity for all but serve to network with Industry experts. She also thanked IPA and DPSRU for collaboration and appreciated the course director Dr. Chitra Gupta to have taken this initiative.
