Induction program for D. Pharm & B. Pharm. (Session 2020-21)

Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology (Pharm.) was conducted a two-day Induction program for D. Pharm & B. Pharm (Session 20-21) students on 1st & 3rd October 2020. Dr. Shilpa Pahwa, H.O.D., Pharmacy Department under the guidance of Dr. Vandana Arora Sethi, Group Director, Lloyd Group of Institutions hosted and introduced the pharmacy program to the new students.

The orientation ceremony was started on day 1 with a warm welcome to the entrants by Dr. Shilpa. She began with a small introduction about Lloyd, its rich 16+yrs legacy along with its major highlights. Later, Dr. Vandana spoke on “Pharmacy Profession in Corona Era” and highlighted the fact that ‘pharmacist are the true warriors in this pandemic’ and their various avatars and responsibilities like, Sales and marketing, Pharmacist & Druggist, Pharma Scientists, Research and Development Officers, Clinical Trial Officers, Pharmacovigilance and more.

Later in this event, Mrs. Sarika Mahtta, Associate Prof., Dept. of Pharmacy spoke on Industry-Academia Interaction & the Collaborations of Lloyd with reputed Industries. She gave a brief insight into the guest lectures and Industrial visits conducted and introduced the Training and Placement Cell as well as corporate coaches of Lloyd Institute.

An expert talk was taken up by Dr. Kriti Soni, Head of Formulation Development, Dabur Research Foundation on the topic “Expectations of the Pharma Industry from upcoming Pharma Professionals”. She said pharmacy is quite a master blend between the theoretical curriculum and practical industrial aspects. She also discussed on few major pointers like the required skill sets by the Industry experts from the pharma professionals, the PCI syllabus meeting the present Industry requirements, the dire need to additionally up-skill the pharma professional to meet the current market, the present opportunities in the industry and the recently upcoming avenues for the students. She very well explained how the PCI pharmacy syllabus touches all the heightened domains which are needed to upgrade and perfect the pharmacy as a world-class profession.

On Day 2, a session on the Importance of Effective Communication was conducted by Ms. AartiNagrath, People Connect Specialist, Lloyd Business School. She started her talk by emphasizing on communication skills that one should possess to have an effective stand amongst the crowd. She also said, “effective communication helps build a cohesive team for management and other fields.” She pointed the basic 7 C’s of communication, “clear, correct, complete, concrete, concise, considered, and courteous”. She also quoted “Practice is the mantra” and talked about how active engagement with social networks would work in achieving confidence and creating a positive profile for oneself.

Later in the program, they had a lecture on Ethics and Values in the Profession by Mrs. Shikha Bansal, Senior Territory Manager Sales, PM Publishers Pvt. Ltd. She began with a quote “we are not here by chance, we are here by choice.” She emphasized basically how every life is important and every decision made affects one another. She explained how the relationship among body and shadow works and how one can transact themselves from shift to focus, emphasizing on how one can shift their negativity into the positive attributes and from seeing limitations towards seeing possibilities. In the end, she motivated the new entrants for their starting career with a winning attitude and how one can stay optimistic throughout.

This Induction Program familiarized the students coming from diverse backgrounds with the key subjects that constitute the Pharmacy Education & facilitate them in developing a strong foundation to leverage the program benefits and being a proud part of Lloyd.

Over-all it was a very informational and enlightening session for the fresher’s in Pharmacy Education.
