The lecture was delivered by Mr. Suraj Gupta, Clinical Pharmacologist, Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj.

The session began with a warm welcome by the Group Director of Lloyd Institute, who emphasized the importance of raising awareness about critical healthcare challenges, especially antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which is increasingly becoming a global public health concern.

Mr. Suraj Gupta, with his extensive experience in clinical pharmacology, provided an in-depth analysis of the growing threat posed by antimicrobial resistance. He explained how the overuse and misuse of antibiotics have accelerated the rise of drug-resistant bacteria, making many infections harder to treat. Highlighting the challenges, he pointed out the lack of new antibiotics in development, the misuse of existing drugs, and the gap in public awareness as key factors contributing to the problem.

The lecture covered the following key points:

  1. Current Status of Antimicrobial Resistance: Mr. Gupta discussed the statistics and trends of AMR worldwide, explaining how common bacterial infections are increasingly becoming untreatable due to resistance.
  2. Challenges in Combatting AMR: He addressed the numerous challenges faced by healthcare systems, including inadequate diagnostic tools, lack of stringent regulatory frameworks, and the over-prescription of antibiotics.
  3. Proposed Solutions: The talk highlighted several potential solutions to curb the rise of AMR, such as the development of novel antibiotics, better antibiotic stewardship programs, public awareness campaigns, and promoting research in alternative therapies like bacteriophages and vaccines.
  4. The Role of Healthcare Professionals: Mr. Gupta stressed the responsibility of healthcare providers in prescribing antibiotics responsibly and the importance of educating patients about the proper use of medications.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students and faculty had the opportunity to engage with Mr. Gupta on various aspects of antimicrobial resistance. His insightful answers helped clarify several doubts and expanded the audience’s understanding of the issue.

The lecture was well-received by the audience, which included students, & faculty members. Mr. Gupta’s expertise and clarity of explanation provided a comprehensive understanding of the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat this global health challenge.

The event ended with a vote of thanks from the organizing team, expressing gratitude to Mr. Suraj Gupta and Fortis Hospital for their collaboration, and reaffirming Lloyd Institute’s commitment to organizing more such knowledge-sharing events in the future.
