Saturday, May 22^nd 2021: An Expert Talk was given by Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Vice President AIMIL Pharmaceuticals India Ltd on the topic “Current Perspectives in the field of Global Pharmaceutical  Industry” He briefed about Indian Pharmaceutical Industry. India ranks 3rd worldwide for pharmaceutical production by volume and 14th by value. The country has an established domestic pharmaceutical industry, with a strong network of 3,000 drug companies and ~10,500 manufacturing units. He also explained the current situation of medicine spending in India and the one which is expected over the next five years, leading India to become one of the top 10 countries in terms of medicine spending. He gave its credit to the existing Government policies and plans. The Indian Government has taken many steps to reduce costs and bring down healthcare expenses. Speedy introduction of generic drugs into the market has remained in focus and is expected to benefit the Indian pharmaceutical companies. In addition, the thrust on rural health programs, lifesaving drugs and preventive vaccines also augurs well for the pharmaceutical companies. He shared his vast experience in the field of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Marketing. The session was concluded with series of queries and short discussion with the students related to their questions.
