Introduction:
Lloyd Group of Institutions, in collaboration with Brahma Kumaris, organized the second session of the Digital Wellness Course on 29th April, 2026. The session focused on “Understanding Attention and Distractors”, with the objective of improving attention, concentration, and focus while helping participants recognize and manage distractions in their daily lives.
The session was attended by B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. students, who gained an understanding of the importance of attention and concentration in effective learning, academic performance, and personal development. All faculty members attended the faculty session and learned about the significance of attention management in teaching, professional responsibilities, productivity, and interpersonal relationships.
Key Highlights of the Session
The session explained the concepts of attention, focus, and concentration, highlighting how attention enables individuals to select relevant information, focus directs attention towards a specific task, and concentration helps sustain focus over time. An interactive colour-identification activity was conducted to demonstrate the importance of attention and the ability to avoid distractions.
The session also highlighted the benefits of attention, including improved learning and skill development, stronger relationships, enhanced resilience, better critical thinking, and improved quality of life. Participants were introduced to the concept of the attention economy and encouraged to understand how excessive engagement with digital platforms can divert their attention from important academic, professional, and personal activities.
Factors Responsible for Distraction
The session discussed four major factors responsible for distraction:
- Boredom
- Lack of planning
- Negative bias
- Physical or mental discomfort
Participants learned the importance of prioritizing tasks, creating a distraction-free workspace, managing time effectively, practising positive self-talk, and maintaining a positive outlook. The importance of conscious breathing, meditation, and self-discipline in strengthening attention and managing distractions was also emphasized.
Conclusion
The session concluded with a relaxation and reflection activity, encouraging participants to assess their attention habits and apply the techniques discussed in their daily routines. Overall, the session was informative and interactive, helping students and faculty members understand the importance of mindful attention, effective concentration, and responsible digital habits in improving academic performance, professional efficiency, and overall well-being.
