Lloyd Institute of Management & Technology (Pharm.), Greater Noida successfully organized one day Hand on Training on “Animal Handling” on 11th May 2024. The Theme of the workshop was Animal Handling and Basic Experimental Techniques. 70+ Trainee from various colleges and universities like DPSRU, ITS Ghaziabad, IFTM University, Gurugram University, Sharda University, Metro College and ABESIT etc. took part in this workshop.

 

The program commenced at 9.30 am (11th May 2024), following a warm-up Tea, with a grand inaugural session. Eminent guests Dr Vijay Pal Singh, AcSIR, PTO-CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Former Joint Director, FSSAI, Dr Inderjeet Yadav Veterinarian In-Charge, Animal Facility, National Brain Research Centre, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India and Dr. Dinesh Kanwar Yadav, B.V.Sc. and AH, Chief Veterinary Officer, Central Laboratory Animal Resources, JNU, New Delhi chaired the workshop. The program began with an auspicious lamp lightening by the dignitaries and Saraswati Vandana to evoke the blessings of the Goddess of learning. Dr. Lalit Kumar Tyagi, Prinicipal, Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology, Dr. Shilpa Pahwa, Vice Principal, Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology and Dr. Chitra Gupta, Dean PG, Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology, welcomed the Resource persons.

 

Dr Vijay Pal Singh, AcSIR, PTO-CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Former Joint Director, FSSAI. addressed on the topic of “Animal Welfare and Ethics in Biomedical Research and Selecting Animal Models”. He delivered an energetic and outcome based training lecture to the participants for proper and minimal size of animals for research activity.  

 

Dr Inderjeet Yadav Veterinarian In-Charge, Animal Facility, National Brain Research Centre, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India delivered Technical Session-I on the topic of “CCSEA Guidelines and Administrative Requirements for Animal Research.” He trained the participants with administrative requirements of animal research.

 

Dr. Dinesh Kanwar Yadav, B.V.Sc. and AH, Chief Veterinary Officer, Central Laboratory Animal Resources, JNU, New Delhi spoke on “Routes of Administration and Handling Methods”. He mentioned many key points to handle different animals required for new drug development process.

After lunch, the participants were segregated into 3 groups. Each groups from different colleges and universities were trained on animal demonstration by the esteemed dignitaries.

 

Animals like Albino Rats, Mice and Rabbits were procured from Lloyd Animal Facility for Experimentation (LAFE) according to the guidelines of CCSEA and OECD. Most of the trainings were given on artificial models. Animals were used only for handling and routes of drug administration’s purpose.

 

Dr Vijay Pal Singh trained the participants with the use of different artificial models like Dog for blood pressure, artificial Suturing model and artificial dissection model of rats and guinea pig.  Dr Inderjeet Yadav trained the students with different routes of animals using rats and mice and elaborated about basics of experiments on animals. Dr. Dinesh Kanwar Yadav trained the participants with Rabbit handling and basics of experiments. 

 

This was followed by a Valedictory Session. A Quiz competition was organized. Winners of the quiz competition were Mr. Rajan Tyagi M. Pharm. Student, Metro College of Health Sciences (First Prize), Diya Rai B. Pharm. Student, ABESIT College of Pharmacy (Second rank) and Ankit Monga M. Pharm. Student, DPSRU (Third rank). The dignitaries, coordinators, Dr. Syed Salman Ali and Dr. Radha Goel were felicitated.  This was followed by a vote of Thanks by Dr. Radha Goel, Professor, Lloyd Institute of Management and Technology (Pharm.). 

 

Overall the Workshop was a grand success and was able to meet its objectives.
